  1. A.R.I.                                                        DIAMOND DX CLUB

  3.              W.A.B.A. (WORKED ANTARCTIC BASES AWARD) RULES                   
  4. ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
  5. WABA  is an Award Program for DXersinterested in making contacts with stations
  6. operated in Antarctica, therefore to any Antarctic Bases located from 60^ to 
  7. 90^ South. as by definition Antarctic Continent starts at 60^ South.
  8. WABA is edited and sponsored by ARI & DIAMOND DX CLUB.
  9. WABA is available graded in difficult by licenced Radio Amateurs and SWL for
  10. contacts starting from January 1st 1961, the year of "THE ANTARCTIC TREATY".
  11. All bands from 10 to 160 meters, all modes, no limit on signal reports received
  12. or given is allowed.
  13. Currently, two separated awards are available:
  14. - SIMPLE and HARD
  15. - HONOR ROLL and TOP HONOR ROLL
  16.  
  17. REQUIREMENTS.

  19. SIMPLE: 15 contacts and confirmations from 15 different call-signes of Radio
  20.         Amateurs who have operating from Antarctica, representing at least 5
  21.         Countries having Bases there. SIMPLE class will not have Endorsements
  22.         or up to date.
  23. HARD: 10 contatcts and confirmations from stations operated from 10 different
  24.       Bases in Antarctica, representing at least 5 Countries having Bases here.
  25.       HARD class may be up to dated every time the applier want to do it, just
  26.       following the next suggestions.
  27. HONOR ROLL: 25 contacts and confirmations from stations operated from 25 diffe-
  28.             rent Bases in Antarctica, representing at least 15 Countries ha-
  29.             ving Bases there.
  30. TOP HONOR ROLL: 50 contacts and confirmations from stations operated from 50
  31.                 different Bases in Antarctica, representing at least 20 Coun-
  32.                 tries having Bases there.

  34. WABA AWARD MANAGER is I8IYW Giuseppe Iannuzzi, P.O.Box 5083, 80144 NAPLES,ITALY

  36. Send to the DIAMOND DX CLUB AWARD MANAGER I8IYW detailed extract of the log
  37. showing:

  39. Call-sign of the station worked, date, time, frequency, mode, RST received,
  40. name of Antarctic Base plus all QSL card for the contacts listed. Members of
  41. DIAMOND DX CLUB don't need to send QSL's to the Award Manager, but some cards
  42. must be sent in case a check of some of them may be requested. QSL's will sent
  43. back through the bureau or direct if required from the appliers. In this case
  44. a SASE must be enclosed.
  45. The fee for WABA all classes is 20.000 lire or 25 IRCs or 15 US $. The fee of 
  46. the endorsements is 3.000 lire or 2 US $ or 3 IRC's, while for HONOR ROLLS and
  47. TOP HONOR ROLLS endorsements are free.

  49. ENDORSEMENTS: Adhesive colour flag of each of the Countries having a Base or
  50. Bases in Antarctica for submitting at least 50% of the active Bases belonging
  51. to that Country, following the Reference Numbers on WABA Directory.
  52. OTHER SPECIFICATIONS: Radio Amateurs who have operated or operating from any
  53. Base in Antarctica has right to apply automatically for WABA SIMPLW without 
  54. the over mentioned requirements (QSL's and Log extract). Just for those a flag
  55. "OPERATOR" will be printed on the Award.
  56. Contacts with special call IR1ANT (operated from Torino Italy in the occasion
  57. of the Antarctic Adventure the 27th January '91), IY0A in Rome Italy (the
  58. official station connected daily with IA0PS in Antarctica) and IY8UN in 
  59. Naples Italy (other station connected daily with IA0PS), are valid and those
  60. three can be used as Jolly to achieve the 50% of the Bases needed to complete
  61. a Country section or to achieve the base AWARD (SIMPLE or HARD).

  63. WABA Directory: a copy of WABA Directory is available by the DDXC (DIAMOND DX
  64. CLUB) c/o the Award Manager's address, and the fee is 5.000 lire or 6 IRC's or
  65. 4 US $ as contribution for copies and postal expences.

  67. HELPERS: People having informations regarding Antarctic Bases, not enclosed on
  68. the WABA Directory, could get in touch or write to I8IYW or IK1GPG or I1HYW
  69. to up to date the Directory itself, and a special mention on Helpers' call
  70. signes will be printed on the first page of the Directory. The Italian
  71. Official ARI Magazine "RADIO RIVISTA" will publish twice a year call signes 
  72. and names of the new WABA Awards issued and uo to date of results.
  73. SIMPLE, HARD, HONOR ROLL and TOP HONOR ROLL AWARDS consist of an Aluminium
  74. silk-screen printing colour plate, personalized, showing the Antarctic
  75. Continent, dimension 200 x 240 millimeters.
